Day 2: Beijing

In the morning you’ll explore the wonder of Beijing’s Hutongs with your tour guide.

Hutongs are narrow streets or alleys housing many traditional courtyard residences which date back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), when Mongols made the city their capital.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Forbidden City. The construction of the City was completed in 1420 during the reign of the Ming Dynasty Emperor Yongle, and served as the Imperial administrative centre throughout the Ming and Qing Dynasties until the fall of the Empire in 1911.

Lovingly restored for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Forbidden City has regained its former glory. Together with your guide you’ll spend time in the courtyards and rooms, and climb the artificial coal hill for a spectacular view of the entire site.

Stay: Rosewood Beijing

Day 3: Beijing

Following breakfast you’ll visit the Temple of Heaven and learn about its hidden symbolism that hints at beliefs more ancient than Buddhism and Taoism. This is the best time of day to see it as you can also witness locals doing Tai Qi, Kung Fu, meditation and gymnastics. Some also like to practice calligraphy with giant brushes and water on the park’s flagstones. Following suit, you’ll have the opportunity to try water calligraphy yourself.

The afternoon takes you to the glorious Summer Palace. A simple Imperial garden, the site was renovated by Emperor Qianlong during the 18th century to become one the most important sites of Beijing.

Day 4: Beijing

You’ll be picked up at 8 am for the drive to The Great Wall of China.

Our wall location will be Jiankou, where we’ll embark on a five hour hike, retracing our steps back to the Qin Dynasty (more than 2000 years ago) and taking in the superb scenery from the watch-towers, the most impressive of which is Zhengbeilou Tower where you’ll have breathtaking views of your surroundings.

Lunch at a local restaurant will be served after the hike and before we return you to your hotel.

Day 5: Beijing - Xi'an

You will be met at the hotel and transferred to the station for your high speed train to Xi’an.

Upon arrival to the Shaanxi Province, your local guide will escort you to your hotel.

Welcome to the place often considered where Chinese civilisation began. The capital of the Empire three times, Xi’an was an administrative site and hub of commerce, exporting silk and local products to other countries. During the Tang Dynasty (618-907 BC) the city became the most populated in the world.

Day 6: Terracotta Warriors - Xi'an

Today you’ll be taken to see the famous Terra Cotta Warriors, only discovered in 1974 by accident by some local farmers.

One of the greatest archeological finds in history, it was Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi’s fear of spirits that led him to build a mausoleum of infantrymen, archers, and cavalry riders to protect him in the afterlife. Each of the Terra Cotta Warriors has a different face and statues are separated into three pits. Your tour will end at Pit Number 1, which contains about 2000 warriors.

Afterwards, you can take an hour’s bike tour through Xi’an to see the Xi’an ramparts built during the Ming Dynasty.

Day 7: Vintage Countryside Jeep Adventure - Xi'an

This morning after breakfast you’ll be picked up by your guide and taken to your vintage jeep which will cruise you through back roads and fields towards your first destination, Jade city. Next, you’ll indulge a wine tasting at the beautiful winery of world, Qingyun Ma.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, after which you’ll discover the Thousand Buddha temple which is rich history and, as the name implies, thousands of Buddhist sculptures.

The journey home takes you along the peak of the mountains with stunning views surrounding you.
