Hemingways Nairobi

Nairobi

Located in the leafy suburb of Karen, home of Karen Blixen’s Out of Africa farm, Hemingways Nairobi is a plantation-style hotel set within sloping manicured lawns. Brimming with colonial grandeur, it offers views over the Ngong Hills, and is a great base for exploring the city and surrounding area.

There are 45 spacious rooms including two presidential suites (Blixen and Hemingway). The rooms have lofty timber-beamed ceilings, large en suites, and generous balconies overlooking the green hills of Africa.

The Brasserie offers international cuisine, focusing on contemporary European and South Asian flavours. They also serve an afternoon tea complemented by a choice of teas, infusions and champagne.

A great destination pre- or post-safari, Hemingways is close to the Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi National Park, Giraffe Centre and David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Alternatively, lounge around the pool or indulge in a spa treatment.

Why we recommend Hemingways Nairobi

Hemingways is a colonial-style boutique hotel harking back to the days when its namesake writer explored east Africa. Many come here to bask in nature doing nothing before or after the adventure of a safari, so it's all about minimal activity. There’s a large outdoor pool lined with sun loungers, a spa, steam room and sauna, and a small gym to keep you occupied without being too energetic. As the sun goes down, taking a seat on the wicker furniture and watching as the hills disappear, is pretty much close to perfection.
